Sonoluminescence as Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking

Although sonoluminescence was discovered in 1933, sofar the phenomenon has not been properly explained. In this paper we interpret this phenonmenon as spontaneous symmetry breaking. First, the single bubble sonoluminescence (SBSL) is considered. The mechanism here has been confirmed to be broken spherical symmetry by the work of D F Gaitan et al and Dam J S et al. In this paper we extend this to multi-bubble sonoluminescence. This will be in the form of spontaneous energy focusing from all bubbles and spontaneous symmetry breaking(SSB) due to all acoustical Poynting vectors pointing in one direction and phase transition with the transduction of the sound phase of matter into the light phase of matter. The chemiluminescence is a part of and the details of the phase transition. Free electrons from the ionized noble gas within the bubble interact with other neutral atoms causing light emission. We extend Poynting vector from first order to second order taking account of the interaction of free electrons with the ionized atoms. This is the nonlinear interaction term in the ground state of the Hamiltonian and SSB will break the symmetry of this term.
